Real Love

John 13: 34 (NKJV) A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

We live in a world where the word love is used for every occasion. We tell friends how much we love our new car, our career, ou or our home. We love Dancing with the Stars, BBQ, and ice cream. And we certainly can’t leave off golf or football. Peter uses the   word love in a much different way. He uses it as an action word, not as a warm and fuzzy feeling, with empty or shallow meaning. Real love is something that if you give it away, you will end up having more. Real love is a choice that almost always costs you something. Real love denies oneself and puts others first. It is a command and not just a sentimental suggestion. Jesus modeled real love, when He gave His life for a world that rejected Him. I don’t know about you but I want to be an instrument of real love.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7(TLBLove is always patient; love is always kind; love is never envious or arrogant with pride. Nor is she conceited. It does not insist on its way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
